Abstract
A new yellow gerbera (Gerbera hybrida Hort.) cultivar Runa was developed from a cross between Ansofie and Sunset followed by seedling and line selections at the Flower Breeding Research Institute, Kyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extention Services (ARES) in 1998. Characteristic trials were conducted three times from 1999 to 2001. Newly bred Runa showed yellow color (RHS No.9-B), double type, and large flower. It also was in good harmony in ray floret color and flower center color with stable flower shape. The vase life was 12.2 days. The average yield of Runa was 49.5 flowers per plant per year in the greenhouse yield trails carried out from 1999 to 2001. This cultivar registered for commercial ization in 2002. Runa would be cultured under greenhouse condition in Korea.
