A New Dark Purple Skin and White Flesh Potato Cultivar, ＂Jaseo＂

Abstract

Most of recommended potato varieties in Korea are white skin colored. Purple skinned potatoes have been recognized as being effective in the prevention of gastric disease. A new variety Jaseo has dark purple skin and white flesh colors, and attractive round tuber shape with very shallow eyes as a table use. Yielding potential is high, especially with excellent marketable yields and very uniform tuber weight. It has the growth habit of spreading with purple vein-colored leaves and stems. It shows resistance to PLRV and moderate resistance to potato late blight. However it is relatively susceptible to PVX, PVY, and common scab.
