Abstract
Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) mutants were induced by the gamma ray with 300Gy of Co-60 irradiation using the seed of cultivar Shinnamkwang. BTM3-9 and BTM5-19 lines were selected in M3 generation and then segregated. In M8 generation, the yield potential and qualitative characteristics were investigated. BTM3-9 and BTM5-19 set many pods on the lower nodes as it was 16~32% on cotyledon node and 32~35% on the first node. Pod setting ratio at 80 days after flowering was 14~18% point higher than Shinnamkwang (68%). Seed uniformities were high because coefficient of variations (CV) were 4.8~5.0 point lower than those of Shinnamkwang. There were negative correlation coefficients between flowering date and 100-seed weight on Shinnamkwang but positive on BTM3-9. In the result of yield test conducted for 4 years, two mutant lines produced 29 pods per plant and shelling ratio was about 71%. The 100-seed weight of two mutant lines was 5~11g heavier than those of Shinnamkwang. Yields were 3,363 and 3,345kg/ha in BTM3-5 and BTM5-19 line, respectively, which were 5% more than that of Shinnamkwang (3,193 kg/ha). BTM3-9 and BTM5-19 contained 56% and 54% of lipid, respectively which were 3~5% point more lipid than Shinnamkwang (51%). BTM3-9 contained 2.8% point more in protein but BTM5-19 contained about 1.3% point less than Shinnamkwang (26.8%). Two mutant lines contained 1.0~1.4% point more high-grade fatty acid such a oleic acid than Shinnamkwang (81.4%) and oleic/linoleic ratio was 0.5~0.8% point higher than ones.
