Abstract

A Study on The conflicts between internet －Bookstores and publishing company․bookstores Kim, Jin-Doo Professor of Dept. of Publications Seoil College The goal of this study is to search conflicts between in internet-bookstores and bookstores, and to predict future of internet- bookstores. The characteristics of modern times come from emergence of digital economy. E-commerce becomes important business in digital economy. The price can be reduced in shortening distribution process by e-commerce. The internet-bookstores come into conflicts with bookstores in real world. They can discount book-price by selling the book through internet. But many Korean bookstores have maintained Resale Price maintenance since 1977. Discounting book-price of internet-bookstores is in conflict with Resale Price maintenance which bookstores insists on keeping to them. Korea Fair Trade Commission declared Resale Price maintenance was illegal. But Korean Ministry of Culture & Tourism agreed with Resale price maintenance. There is no reason for keeping Resale Price maintenance, because consumers want cheaper books and internet book-stores can make price lower. There are not only conflicts between internet-bookstores and bookstores, but also fierce competence among internet-bookstores. Two or three internet- bookstores will be alive and control over whole market in which book is selled through internet. The future of internet-bookstores depends on whether consumers are satisfies with the price and service. Market and consumers are main factor to decide future of internet- bookstores.
