Abstract

It is my great honor to give a keynote speech at the conferences of conferences celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the Korean Journal of Criminal Law. I have a great relationship with the journal Criminal Law Research of the Institute of Criminal Justice. When I started to publish the journals in 1988, I helped Park Jung-geun as the secretary of the institute and worked as a presenter. During the 20th anniversary of 2008, I held an academic conference to recall 20 years of journals. And 2018, the 30th anniversary of the launch, is the year I retire. At this point, I am deeply appreciative of the 30th anniversary of the <Criminal Justice Research>, which was presented at the conference of the Institute. The academic world at the time of publication of the journal was in a situation where I felt the urgency and necessity of the journal of the institute unintentionally. At that time, the burden of the professors' research work was not so great as it is today, so there was no burden that the professors had to write several copies a year. However, academic journals in their universities, which professors used as a venue for presentations, could not be shared by academic circles (because they could not be freely searched in cyberspace). Every member felt that academics need a public sphere.
