후기 노년기 사회적 관계망 유형과 우울에 관한 연구

본 연구는 건강상태 저하, 배우자 및 지인의 상실 등으로 인해 사회적 관계의 양과 질적수준이 급격히 약화되는 75세 이상 후기 노인의 사회적 관계망 유형이 어떠한 유형으로 이루어져 있으며, 어떠한 특성을 가지고 있는지를 탐색적 수준에서 조명하고자 한다. 연구대상은 지역사회에 거주하고 있는 만 75세 이상 노인으로 2012년 고령화연구패널조사 자료를활용하였다. 우리나라 후기 노인의 사회적 관계망 유형을 분석하기 위해 잠재집단분석(Latent Class Analysis)을 사용하였으며, 다중회귀분석을 통해 후기 노인의 사회적 관계망 유형이 노인의 우울수준에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 연구 결과, 우리나라 후기 노인의 사회적 관계망 유형은 친구형(9.0%), 가족․친교형(32.9%), 자녀형(23.2%), 자녀·친구형(34.9%)으로도출되었다. 친구형은 유배우자 비율, 자녀와의 연락과 만남, 친구와의 만남, 친목모임 등 단체활동 참여도 가능성이 매우 낮은 반면 친구와의 만남 가능성이 유일하게 높은 특성을 가진다. 가족․친교형은 유배우자일 확률이 가장 높고, 자녀와 친구, 그리고 친목모임과의 관계정도가 높으며, 자녀형은 사회적 관계의 범위가 자녀로 한정되어 있으며, 자녀·친구형은각종 단체활동 참여 가능성은 낮은 반면 자녀 및 친구와의 교류 가능성이 높은 특성을 보이고 있다. 사회적 관계의 범위가 가장 광범위한 가족․친교형을 기준으로 후기 노인의 사회적 관계망 유형이 우울수준에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과, 친구형과 자녀형의 우울수준이유의하게 높은 것으로 나타나 사회적 관계망 유형이 노년기 정신건강에 절대적인 영향을미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 본 연구결과를 토대로 후기 노인의 사회적 관계망 축소를 예방하고 긍정적인 가족, 친구, 지역사회와의 관계를 형성 및 유지하기 위한 함의를 제시하였다.
Abstract
Generally, older adults aged 75 or over are experienced the reduction of the size and quality of social relation due to health problems. This study was conducted to examine the social network types and the characteristics of community-dwelling older adults aged 75 or above. Date on 1,869 older adults aged 75 or above, from the 2012 Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing, were analyzed. We used the latent class analysis to investigate social network types of elderly and multiple regression analysis to examine the relationship between social network types and depressive symptoms. The results showed that old-old elderly had four distinct social network types: friend type(9.0%), family-social type(32.9%), children type(23.2%), children-friend type(34.9%). The friend type had no contact with children and had small social contacts compared to other types and the older adults with family-social type were more likely contact with children and friends and participate in social meetings. Those with children-friend type had lower social meetings compared to the family-social type, and the social relation of the elderly with children type was limited to only their children. The multiple regression analysis indicated that depressive symptoms among children type and friend type were higher than family-social type. It showed that social network types influenced on mental health of old-old adults. Based on the results of this study, implication for improving the size of social network and maintaining the positive relations with family, friends, and community were discussed.
