GA를 통한 단도박자의 선행과 회복 체험

초록

본 연구는 GA를 통한 단도박자의 선행과 회복 체험을 탐구하는 데에 있다. 이에 따라 세평적 사례선택(reputational case selection)을 통해 총 9명의 사례자를 선정했으며, 1:1 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집했다. 수집된 자료는 사례연구 방법을 적용하여 분석하였다. 첫재, 연구절차에 따라 ‘사례 내 분석’을 시도했다. 이를 통해 개별 사례자들이 가지고 있는 ‘GA를 통한 선행과 회복 체험’을 드러냈다. 둘째, ‘사례 간 분석’을 통해 총 12개의 사례 간 통합주제를 추출했다. 분석 결과, 단도박자들은 GA의 자발적・능동적 참여, 정기적 만남, 개방성과 확장성, 사회적 관계 형성・강화라는 특징에 따라 직책 수행을 포함한 GA 운영 지원, 신규・동료 협심자 지원과 같은 GA 내에서의 선행과 이러한 선행의 확장을 경험했다. 이를 통해 단도박자들은 자신과 타인을 긍정하고, 자기반성과 용서를 얻을 수 있었으며, 책임감이 강화되고, 새로운 삶의 가치를 발견할 수 있었다. 종합적으로 GA에서의 단도박자의 선행체험은 ‘동료 단도박자를 통해 내면을 변화시키는 회복활동’으로 도출되었다. 연구자들은 이 같은 연구결과를 바탕으로 단도박자를 주체적인 선행욕구를 가진 존재로 파악하고 지원해야 하며, 도박중독자의 GA로의 연계를 보다 강화하고, GA에서 전통적으로 거부하는 직접적인 지원이 아닌 간접적인 지원이 필요함을 제시했다.

Abstract

Recent studies in South Korea concerning gambling addiction recovery experiences have revealed the importance of gambling addicts’ good deed on gambling addiction recovery. And G. A., an anonymous self-help group for gambling addicts, is expected to have some traits that cause the good deeds of gambling addicts. This study, thus, aims to explore a gambling addict’s good deed and recovery experience through G. A. by focusing on the traits of G. A. in South Korea. For this purpose, a total of nine cases were selected through reputational case selection and data were collected through one-to-one in-depth interviews. The collected data were analyzed by the case study method proposed by Creswell(2013). According to the research procedure, ‘within-case analysis’ was attempted and revealed the context of a gambling addict’s good deed and recovery experience through G. A. Subsequently, a total of 12 integrated cross-case topics were extracted from ‘cross-case analysis.’ As a result of the analysis, a G. A. in South Korea is identified to have traits that are ‘voluntary and active participation,’ ‘regular meeting,’ ‘openness and expandability,’ and ‘forming and reinforcing social relationships.’ Gambling addicts, according to these traits, experienced good deeds consisted of ‘operational supports including official duty,’ ‘supports for new and exiting members,’ and ‘the extension of the good deeds.’ Through these experiences, gambling addicts recovered through‘perceiving self positively,’ ‘perceiving others positively,’ ‘self-reflection and forgiveness,’ ‘enhancing responsibility,’ and ‘discovering new life values.’ Overall, a good deed in G. A. is defined as ‘inner-changing recovery through relationships with fellow members.’ Based on these findings, the researchers suggested the public awareness on a gambling addict as an autonomous subject who has the desire of good deeds and support its desire. Also, practical and political implications such as the importance and the need for vitalization of G. A., and the necessity of indirect support on G. A. in South Korea were induced.
