Abstract

When we look at Contract of Sale, for example, 'CIF New York', CIF is the abbreviation of cost, insurance, and freight, and has the terms of Contract of Sale in which a seller bears the insurance premium and freight rates for the cargos from the factory to New York. This CIF has undergone much change with the rapid change in the business environment of the world. On this thesis, it is reviewed how the change has affected CIF. And also, it is necessary to systematically understand basic theories of CIF, a commercial practice, in order to examine these changes. After considering what kind of functions B/L, the core of document of shipping are, and how CIF, which has been used for a long time in England, is being interpreted in the country, The effect of Sea Waybill, which has recently emerged as the alternative means for the crisis of B/L, on CIF is discussed. On the basis of the analysis like this, the problems of CIF in the rapid change in the business environment of the world are specified.
