Abstract

The purpose of this study was to conduct a meta analysis and network-meta analysis to examine the effect of smartphone-based physical activity intervention. The specific aims of the study was 1) to summarize and synthesize of smartphone-based physical activity intervention effects, 2) to scrutinize determinants of moderator variables smartphone-based physical activity programs, and 3) compare findings obtained from meta analysis and network-meta analysis. Sixteen articles with 66 moderator variables such as populations, ages, period of interventions, treatments, feedbacks, and measures were included in the data analysis. Standardized mean difference and 95% confidence interval based on random-effect model were calculated, and homogeneity and heterogeneity of effect sizes were examined by Q and I2 for the meta analysis. Degree centrality, weight, Frequency and means weight as well as effect map were derived for network-meta analysis. As a result of meta analysis, utilizing smartphone, higher age group, pedometer use, shorter period of interventions were more effective for smartphone-based physical activity. From the network-meta analysis, increasing steps was more effective than moderate and vigorous intensity of physical activity and walking time when smartphone-based physical activity program is conducted. In the future study, it should be considered to develop a smartphone-based physical activity intervention for younger population and to conduct researches for a long-term effect.
