초록
This study analyzes the statistics system and organization of the Governor-General of Korea, which ruled the Korean peninsula during the colonial period, as well as issues with the actual statistical data. It also reviews the economic growth and government systems of the time and aims to create opportunities for improving the current political economy and social policy system. In terms of period-specific characteristics, in the early period of the Governor-General of Korea, the focus was on operation statistics rather than survey statistics functions. The Documents Section was set up inside the Administration Section and undertook the overall compilation of the statistics materials collected through the respective bureaus. Meanwhile, work on population statistics was allocated to the Police Affairs Section, which was under the supervision of the Chief of Police Affairs. This also shows the characteristics of the military government at the time. In the middle period of the Governor-General of Korea, the Statistics Section was established in an attempt to make the operation statistics functions independent. However, it was subsequently dismantled and absorbed by the Survey Section and the Documents Section. However, the main feature of this period was the establishment of the National Survey Section, which conducted survey statistics operations. Towards the end of the regime, the main focus of operations became materials surveying for conducting the war. During the war, publication of statistical data was restricted due to information controls. Another characteristic of the Governor-General era was the report system. The reporting system functioned as the basic guideline for the colonial statistics system. When using these reports to analyze survey materials by field, it is necessary to closely examine changes in the report itself and in the related survey items.
