본 연구는 DEA 기법과 Malmquist 생산성지수를 이용하여 2000년부터 2010년까지 11년간 국내 생명보험산업의 효율성과 생산성변화를 기술효율성, 규모효율성 및 기술진보의 변화로 구분하여 측정하였다. 생명보험 산업의 생산성은 등락을 반복하고 있는데, 기술진보와 규모효율성의 변화는 순수기술효율성의 하락을 상쇄하고 생산성향상에 기여하였음을 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 생산성의 증가는 구조조정 등에 기인한 것으로 보인다. 특정 연도의 생산성의 하락은 생명보험회사의 효율적 프론티어가 일반생명보험회사의 생산성보다 더 크게 증가하였기 때문에 발생한 것을 알 수 있다. 이는 낮은 효율성도 경영개선에 의하여 생산성을 증가시킬 수 있다는 것을 말해 준다.
Abstract
The Purpose of this paper is to measure the relative efficiency and productivity change of the Korean Life Insurance Firms using DEA model and Malmquist Index for 2000-2010. As the result of the static efficiency analysis, CCR, BCC, scale efficiency, return to scale, and reference set fo Korean life insurance firms in 2010. Maalmquist index is decompsed into three components such as pure efficiency change, scale efficiency change, and technical change. And the trend and stablility of their efficiencies for 11 years are described. The principal findings imply that an overall increase in productivity is driven more by technical progress than than pure technical efficiency and scale efficiency.
