초록

In the new space age, not only the research community, but also the industry is showing great interest in space-related information and communication technology (ICT). One area that has attracted considerable attention is laser-based space communication, also known as free-space optical communication (FSO). FSO offers significant advantages over traditional radio frequency (RF) communication, including higher data transfer rates, lower power consumption, and reduced mass and space requirements. To promote interoperability, international space agencies work together through the interagency operations advisory group (IOAG) and consultative committee for space data systems (CCSDS) to establish optical communication standards. These standards support optical communication systems for both near-Earth and deep-space missions involving free-space links between the spacecraft and ground. This study comprehensively discusses the CCSDS for optical links. In addition, key performance metrics are presented in terms of the bit error rate (BER) obtained from simulations in the deep-space Poisson channel. These results provide a valuable reference for researchers and the space industry to exploit the advantages of laser-based optical links and drive the future of space telecom.
