이 연구의 목적은 선행 연구 고찰을 통해 교양으로서의 심리학 교육의 목적과 내용에 대한 학술적 논의를 정리하고, 교양 심리학 수업에서 강조되어야 할 내용을 제안하는 데 있다. 오늘날 심리학은 대중과 학계로부터 많은 관심을 받는 학문으로 자리 잡았으나 현재 대학의 교양 심리학 교육의 목적과 방법에 대한 합의는 부족한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구는 교양으로서의 심리학에 관한 국내의 선행 연구 및 오늘날 미국 심리학 교육의 핵심 목표가 된 ‘심리학적 소양’이라는 개념 정립에 영향을 미친 국외 선행 연구를 고찰하여 이를 바탕으로 교양 심리학 수업에서 강조되어야 할 핵심 내용 세 가지(과학적 연구방법론에 대한 이해, 심리학적 원리의 일상 적용, 다양성에 대한 존중)를 제안한다. 이 연구는 교양 심리학 수업이 학술적 논의에 기반하여 운영될 수 있도록 계획되고 개선되는 과정에 유용한 기초 자료를 제공할 것이다.
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to organize the scholarly discussion about the purpose and content of teaching psychology as a liberal arts through a review of the literature and to suggest what should be emphasized in liberal arts psychology courses. Today, psychology has become a discipline that receives a lot of attention from the public and academia, but in many cases, liberal arts psychology classes in universities are not organized based on a consensus on the purpose and method of psychology education as a liberal arts. This study examines the domestic research on psychology as a liberal arts and the international research that has influenced the conceptualization of "psychological literacy," which has become a core goal of psychology education in the United States today. The current study also proposes three core goals that should be emphasized in liberal arts psychology courses: an understanding of scientific research methodology, application of psychological principles, and respect for diversity. This study will provide a useful foundation for the process of planning and improving liberal arts psychology courses to ensure that they are grounded in scholarly discussion.
