Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a deep learning-based Grad-Shafranov equation solver applicable to various tokamak systems. After generating a large training dataset using the FreeGS library, a preprocessing step was performed to exclude data of unstable plasma states to improve the ease of training. As a result, the developed Keras-based deep learning model was able to predict the equilibrium state  distribution from variables such as X-point position, plasma current, and pressure more than 600 times faster than the numerical method. By modifying the loss function of the deep learning model, we were able to develop a solver with higher accuracy by differentiating it from other models. This method will be useful if applied to real-time plasma control systems. Additionally, the validity of the model was verified by evaluating the contribution of key variables through SHapley Additive exPlanations analysis, a method of explainable artificial intelligence, which confirmed that the model's predictions align with the physical principles governing tokamak operations. The developed solver shows the possibility of being expanded across various tokamak structures and due to its high accuracy, it appears to be an effective alternative to numerical approaches currently used for real-time analysis.
