The Exploration of Vocabulary Teaching and Learning for Foreign Learners - Based on『Learning Vocabulary in Another Language』(Nation, 2013)

This study aims at exploring I.S.P Nation’s “Learning Vocabulary in Another Language” to examine its implications in the field of vocabulary education in Korean language education. The Book, Nation(2013), which consists of lexical education theory and practical application in the field of vocabulary teaching, is distinct from the book first published in 2001, since it is reflecting relatively recent research in vocabulary education. According to the Nation (2013), approximately 30% of vocabulary studies conducted over the past 110 years have taken place from 2002 to 2012. The author said that about one-fifth of the book was filled with new material and corrected the errors in the first edition. He also mentioned that the author’s views on vocabulary teaching and learning have changed in part through his research results and experiences. Accordingly, this study explored the theory on teaching and learning foreign vocabulary and its implication in Nation (2013), focusing on the revised parts from the first edition of Nation (2001). Also, this study examined the implications of this book for vocabulary education for Korean language learners.
