Abstract

Purpose: Pediatric home-visit nursing services are increasingly recognized as essential for promoting child health and supporting families in diverse settings. This study reviews and compares pediatric home-visit nursing systems in Korea, Japan, the United States, and other countries, including Australia; identifies current practices; and draws implications for expanding and improving services in Korea. Methods: A narrative review of national and international literature was conducted between October 2024 and May 2025, including scholarly databases (DBpia, RISS, KISS, PubMed, and Google Scholar) and government/association reports. A comparative analysis examined service frameworks, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the role of visiting nurses. Results: Japan has established insurance-backed multidisciplinary home care and is expanding its network of pediatric visiting nurses. The United States has demonstrated sustained outcomes for child welfare and family health through evidence-based programs such as the Nurse-Family Partnership. Australia’s model prioritizes cultural adaptation and community engagement, notably for Aboriginal families. In Korea, despite the existence of regulatory structures, pediatric service coverage is limited to severe cases, with notable challenges in accessibility and interdisciplinary practice. Conclusion: Expanding pediatric home-visit nursing services to include a broader range of children and chronic conditions is essential in Korea. Key recommendations include strengthening legal and institutional frameworks, building multidisciplinary teams, enhancing nurse specialization and training, implementing rigorous outcome evaluation systems, and information and communication technology-enabled remote care. This study provides foundational evidence for the development of integrated community-based pediatric care models tailored to the Korean healthcare context.
