Abstract

The Music Circulationg System in the 19th Century This paper aims at clarifing the modernization of Korean music history by examining the music circulating system in the 19th century. There were three cases of the music circulating system：through the authentic, commercial, and folk music worlds. These three cases may be distinguished by two very inportant facts：the aesthetic attitude to music of the listeners and musicians, and the recompense of their musical performances. On the commercial music world, especially, the music circulating system could be sub-divided into three classes：high, middle, and low according to the economic and cultural background, the caste, the resident regions of the listeners and the cost of the concert. Although the class is the important element to determine the way of the music circulating, however in 19th century, because every classes enjoyed the music and the personal musical taste was reflected on music more than the 18th century. In conclusion the author points out that it may be possible to mention that the music circulating system in the 19th century shows us an aspect of modern Korean music history.
