Abstract
This paper focuses on Collectif Argos’ Climate Refugees (2004-2010), which represents the unequal structures of nation, society, race, and class that contribute to the climate crisis, migration, and refugee phenomena. The Collectif Argos contain photographers, writers, sound/audio experts, and film makers engaged in documentary journalism who, to show global environmental changes and their impact on humans, visit hazardous areas to expose the conditions before presenting their findings in various projects, including exhibitions and publications. It also critically examines the project in terms of social practice and artistic collaboration. The Climate Refugee includes a variety of climate migration cases spanning different geographical locations. From rising sea levels in Tuvalu and the Maldives to hurricanes threatening New Orleans in the United States, desertification in Chad, and permafrost destruction and thawing in Alaska, Collectif Argos explores the impact of climate change on human migration. Thus this research examines, through Collectif Argos’ project, whether, and in what ways, intellectual activities and artists’ practices regarding the climate and environmental crisis can affect us and contribute to changing our perceptions.
