In this paper, we initiate a study of line semigraphs. We give the necessary and sufficient conditions for a semigraph to be a line semigraph of some semigraph. Using characterisation of line graphs in terms of forbidden subgraphs, we obtain a characterisation of line semigraphs in terms of forbidden subsemigraphs.
