This paper inquires into how experienced teachers' concepts for classroom management is different from those of pre-service teachers. Rosch (1999) claimed that people's concepts reflects their understanding of their own situation, and is participatory and interconnected media between their mind and the world. This paper claims that, based on this Rosch's theory of concepts, teachers' concepts regarding a classroom situation itself represent the full range of their CrM skills or strategies. To investigate this issue, this paper interviewed six elementary school teachers (three experienced and three pre-service teachers) to examine how they responded differently to an exemplary classroom situation which involved a CrM issue. The analysis discloses that the experienced teachers had effectual knowledge regarding CrM, in terms of situational knowledge and strategic novelty: first, the experienced teachers demonstrated unique and appropriate viewpoints on the situation and precise analysis of the problems; second, the experienced were more explicit and confident in their strategies. The significance of these findings is discussed and some suggestions are provided for teacher education.
