해외진입시장의 지역특성과 제품차별화전략의 상호작용이 환노출에 미치는 영향

초록

한국의 제조업에 속한 다국적기업을 대상으로 해외진출 시 진입한 지역의 특성과 기업의 전략 간의 상호작용이 환노출에 미치는 영향을 분석하였다. 지리적 다각화 전략과 제품차별화 전략을 함께 고려하여 분석한 결과 지리적 다각화전략과 제품차별화전략은 각각 환노출에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않거나 정(positive)의 관계로 나타났다. 그러나 제품차별화전략은 해외진입시장의 지역적 특성과 상호작용하여 진입지역에 따라 환노출에 차별적으로 영향을 미침을 발견하였다. 기업의 연구개발강도가 높을수록 선진지역에 자회사가 진입하는 경향이 높은 경우 환노출 감소에 유의한 것으로 나타났으며 연구개발강도가 높을수록 개발도상지역으로 진입하는 경향이 높은 경우는 환노출을 증가시키는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 기업이 진입하는 해외시장의 지역적 특성이 기업의 전략과의 상호작용을 통하여 환노출에 영향을 미친다고 할 수 있으므로 기업의 해외진출 시 환노출 관리 면에 있어 시사점이 될 수 있다.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of the interaction between the firm's strategy and the local characteristics on the foreign exchange exposure for Korean manufacturing MNEs. Geographic diversification strategy and product differentiation strategy on its own respectively seem not to affect the foreign exchange exposure or to have a positive effect on the foreign exchange exposure when the two strategies are considered. Product differentiation strategy through interacting with local characteristics, however, is shown to affect differently the foreign exchange exposure depending on the location overseas the firm enters. The higher R&D intensity and the higher involvement of entering advanced area, which shows a significant effect on reducing the foreign exchange exposure. On the other hand, in case of the higher R&D intensity and the higher involvement of entering developing area, however, which shows a significant effect on increasing the foreign exchange exposure. The results support the notion that the local characteristics interacting with the firm's strategy should affect the foreign exchange exposure, which could shed light on the management of the foreign exchange exposure in the process of international expansion.
