이 논문의 목표는 헤겔철학의 주관정신 이론에 있는 습관 개념을 분석함으로써 사회생성과 사회의 존재방식에 관한 해명에 기여하고, 동시에 헤겔철학의 현재성을 밝히는 데에 있다. 헤겔에 따르면 객관정신은 정신에 의해서 구성된 세계를 의미하는 이차적 자연을 뜻한다. 그런데 이러한 이차적 자연은 주관정신의 습관으로부터 생겨난다고 헤겔은 주관정신 이론에서 밝히고 있다. 이는 개개인들의 습관으로부터 사회와 관습 그리고 법과 제도 등이 생겨난다는 점을 해명한 것이다. 그리고 다시 사회는 교육을 통해 인간을 ‘사회의 온전한 구성원으로서의 인간’으로 만든다. 이것은 주관이 객관을 형성하고 다시 객관이 주관을 형성하는 주관과 객관의 내적 반성관계에서 가능하며, 바로 이러한 점을 헤겔은 주관정신과 객관정신의 관계로 설명하고 있다. 헤겔의 이차적 자연 개념은 한갓 과거시대의 사상적 유물에 그치는 것이 아니라 ‘인간이 세계를 구성하고 그 세계 속에서 인간이 인간으로서 살 수 있다’고 주장하는 현대의 문화, 역사 및 상징이론들과 맥을 같이하고 있을 뿐만 아니라 현대 영미분석철학에서 이루어지고 있는 헤겔적 전회에 속에서 핵심적 개념으로 등장하고 있다.
Abstract
This article aims to articulate Hegel’s ideas on the formation of society and the way of existence of society by analyzing the concept of ‘habit’ in Hegel’s philosophy of subjective spirit. And the other purpose of this article is to clarify the actual meaning of Hegel’s philosophy in regard to the formation of society. According to Hegel, objective spirit means second nature as the world constructed by spirit. In his theory of subjective spirit, the second nature originates in the habit of subjective spirit. His assertion is on one hand a plausible explanation about how the social institutions including customs, laws, and manners are formed out of the subjective habits of individuals. On the other hand, the assertion means that society forms a natural human being as a real human being who is a member of society through education. That the objective is formed by the subjective vice versa is only possible in an internal reflective relationship between the subjective and the objective. Hegel intends to articulate that reciprocal relation and formation between the subjective and the objective. Hegel’s concept of second nature, which especially emphasizes that human being constructs his world and he can live in his own world as ‘human’ is never out of date, and its influence is shown in some contemporary philosophical theories of culture, history, symbol and other kinds of social theories. Moreover, it plays an important role for Hegelian turn that is now developing in the field of the analytic philosophy.
