외래어를 활용한 파닉스 학습이 초등영어 학습부진아의 영어 학습능력과 학습태도에 미치는 영향

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of phonics learning with loan words on the English learning ability (phoneme reading ability and English achievement) and attitude (confidence, interest, participation, and anxiety) of English underachievers in elementary school. For this purpose, three 4th graders with low English achievement were selected for research and phonics learning with loan words was conducted for a total of 18 sessions, 30 minutes each session. The conclusions from the results and discussion of this study are as follows. First, phonics learning with loan words has a positive effect on English learning ability for English underachievers. Knowing the relationship between spelling and phoneme made it easy to memorize new vocabulary, which led to the improvement of their English learning ability. Second, phonics learning with loan words affects the learning attitudes of English underachievers. They focused on learning one or two alphabets and phonics in a single session, reducing the burden on the amount of learning they have. Also, by having the time to learn from the basics appropriate to their level, they often gained success experiences. Although there were differences among students, there was a positive change in the learning attitude toward English as they learned that there were many English words they knew and that they were familiar with English while using loan words.
