Abstract
This study examines the impact of human capital, Korean life factors, and sociodemographic characteristics on employment probability of female marriage migrants in Korea using the ‘National Survey on Multicultural Families 2012’. The results show that the educational attainment among human capital factors is positively related to employment of female marriage migrants. In addition, Korean language skills are strongly realted to employement of those whoes Korean language skills are low. Among factors related to Korean life, relations between duration in Korea and employemnt show stable increase, but the rates of increase decrease. It indecates that the increase of durateion in Korea dose not directely increase employment probaility. Moreover, higher husband’s income, having children under age 12 are negativly related to employment of female marriage migrants. In subgroup analyses by nationality, educational attainment of those from the Philippines and Japan is related to their employment. Also, Korean language skills are significantly related to employment probability of those from the Philippines and other Asian countries. Based on the findings from the current study, suggestions are made to help develop effective support or services, and emphasize to develop and improve nationality-specific programs and policies for female marriage immigrants’ employment.
