Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to understand return-to-work experience of nurses who had suffered from breast cancer. Method: Data were collected using a in-depth interview with open-ended questions from November to December in 2013. The participants were three nurses who had suffered from breast cancer and were working as hospital staff nurses. Each interview was conducted for 90 minutes on average and the transcribed data was analyzed with phenomenological method. Result: By using of Colazzi's method, the data was classified under four themes; 'sensitiveness to changing appearance', 'sensitiveness to surrounding people', 'enthusiastic acceptance of reality,' and gratitude to social support'. As a result, it was verified that the nurses who had suffered from breast cancer tried to help patients by successful returning and working when they came return to hospital after they had experienced suffering from breast cancer in terms of physical, psychological and social aspects. Conclusion: This study will provide a deep understanding about nurses to return to hospital after experience of breast cancer.
