Abstract

This paper aims to suggest ethnographic Jibangji(a kind of historiography which contains local history and culture). For this purpose, I criticize historiographic Jibangji and suggest potentialities of ethnographic Jibangji. Historiographic Jibangji has evaluated as alternative history of subalterns. However, It can't overcome butterfly collecting. Historiographic Jibangji contains many materials and data but can't analysis these data. So, these data and materials are stand alone. Ethnographic Jibangji is different from historiographic Jibangji in viewpoint not objects. It also contains local history and culture but it has holistic viewpoint. Every cultural elements are perceived interrelated and interconnected to form cultural configuration. From now, most Jibangji is historiographic Jibangji in Korea. It is the time to consider another type of Jibangji and ethnographic Jibangji can serve as an alternative.
