본고는 상허의 농토를 대상으로 주체의 욕망과 플롯을 살펴본 논의이다. 본고가 주체의 성격을 파악하는 부분에서 농토의 주체를 각성의 주체라는 성격으로 보고 있다. 이 때의 각성이란 이데올로기에 대한 각성, 즉 사회주의 리얼리즘에 대한 각성을 말한다. 본고는 농토를 이태준 작품의 본령인 과거 회귀의 플롯을 통해 구현하고자 하는 작가의 궁극적인 지향점이 발현된 형태로 본다. 그러므로 본고는 이태준의 월북의 의미를 사회주의 리얼리즘에 대한 선택이라기보다 인간적 제도에의 선택으로 읽는다. 그리고 이러한 선택 속에는 지속적인 작가의 욕망인 순수한 세계로의 회귀 욕망이 있다는 입장이다. 다만 이 시기의 작품에서 보여 주는 회귀는 과거로의 회귀가 아니라 작가가 생각하는 유토피아의 세계가 현실의 제도를 실천함으로써 가능해진다는 점을 이 작품을 통해 드러내고자 했다는 것이다. . 「농토」의 중요한 특징 중 하나는 바로 지금까지 이태준의 작품에서 공존하던 두 욕망, 즉 후진적인 과거 회귀의 욕망과 전진적인 현실 추구의 욕망이 화합하는 모습을 보여 준다는 점이다. 농토에서 보여 주는 것은 두 플롯의 긴장 관계가 아니라 두 플롯의 화합의 모습이라 할 수 있다. 그리고 이것은 더 구체적으로 작가의 체제 지향의 욕망이라고 볼 수 있다.
Abstract
This article intends to examine the relationship to the subject's desire and the plot including Lee, Tae-Jun's Farmland. In my opinion, the subject in Farmland is characterized to a subject of awakening. The awakening in this article suggests ideology, socialist realism. This article focuses on the author's desire by examining plot of retrospection in Farmland. As I thought, Lee, Tae-Jun did not go to North Korea to choose socialist realism. His choice means going back to humanist mechanism, moreover to innocent world. In this respect, the retrospection in Farmland dose not mean going back to the past. Lee, Tae-Jun in Farmland desires to come true utopia by executing real system. Lee, Tae-Jun's novels have two different desires, the desire of regressive retrospection and the desire of progressive realization. Lee, Tae-Jun in Farmland combines this two different desire. Therefore, these two conflicting plots are united in Farmland. This united plotting represents more concretely Lee, Tae-Jun's desire for orienting institution.
