Abstract
Visual evoked potential(VEP) has been widely adopted as one of the most delicate tests of lesions in the visual system. But some non - pathologic technical and patient factors, when altered, produced significant changes in P1. When test results are interpretedclinically , the unique VEP normal value for each laboratory is essential. 120 normal subjects without any evidences of ocular disease and central nervous system dysfunction were grouped according to their ages and sexes, and then checker board pattern reversal VEP with full- field stimula.t ion were performed for these groups to establish VEP normal values. The results are as follows; 1. Differences of the P1 latency and the amplitude between each decades are statistically significant. 2. The sex differences in the P1 latency are also statistically significant, but not in the P1 amplitude. 3. Intereye differences of P1 latency are significant and seem to be affected by eye dominance. From these findings, it is suggested that VEP normal values are likely to be changed by ages, sexes and eye dominances. Therefore, for the evaluation of VEP in experimental and clinical field, these factors should be considered.
