초록
On the basis of the development of Korean pronominals it was argued in Song (2002; 2003) that the dynamic relation of speaker and hearer could be at work in the development of human languages. We observed that the pronominal forms are very often devaluated and eroded or replaced by the new forms. The general tendency of human languages that highly-valued expressions are devaluated over time seems to have played an important role in these developments. The in- directness and the politeness principles seem to be at work in this process, which belongs to the speaker-hearer dynamics of human speech. Song (2011) examined pronominals in Japanese on behalf of this interactive approach. This paper surveys now developments of pronominals in some European languages to support our inter- active hypothesis. It was not difficult for us to come to the result that the hypothesis is also valid in these languages.
