‘혐오’현상에 대한 기독교 교육적 성찰

최근 수많은 ‘녀’ 호칭들, 장애인, 성소수자, 이슬라모포비아등 사회적 약자에 대한 각종 혐오 증세가 우리 사회에 두드러지게 나타나고 있으며, 혐오를 중심적 사고로 취하는 반생명적이고 폭력적인 행위들이 점점 증가하고 있다. 특히, 2016년 5월 서울 강남역 근처 공용화장실에서 발생한 여성 살인사건은 가부장적 사회구조를 다시 한 번 보여주었다. 다양한 형태로 나타나고 있는 혐오현상은 사회적 약자를 향한 지배의 일종이다. 그러나 혐오현상 자체는 새로운 것이 아니다. 인간의 역사를 통해 혐오현상은 존재해왔다. 혐오가 표출되는 방식이 예전과 다르고 혐오현상에 관한 사람들의 증가된 관심이 새로울 뿐이다. 이처럼 우리사회에 만연한 혐오현상을 문화적 폭력의 관점에서, 즉 문화나 종교 같은 것을 통해 벌어지는 경우를 고찰해보고 기독교교육에 주는 도전을 생각해봄으로써 혐오사회 대처를 위한 준비의 일환으로 그 방향을 모색해보고자 하는 데 본 논문의 목적이 있다.
Abstract
Nowadays, the phenomenon of disgust toward the socially powerless - many titles with ‘nyo’(woman), Islam phobia, sexual minority, and so on – is pervasive in Korean society. In addition, incidents of anti-life and violent acts with disgust at their core are increasing. The phenomenon of disgust in various forms is a kind of both oppression and dominion toward the socially powerless. A human being created in God’s image has an inborn human dignity, which implies one’s responsibility to uphold another person’s right. The phenomenon of disgust, however, which hates and abhors others without any scientific or logical reason, result in the loss of one’s own humanity by denying otherness. Furthermore, it can also become the cause of losing a sense of community. A Christian, who becomes free because of the Gospel and has to live a life of love and inclusiveness, should not oppress or dominate others. Therefore, there is a need to deal with disgust from the view of Christian education which aims to transform people into mature Christians whose spirits are grounded on the Gospel. Within this context, this article first examines the phenomenon of disgust critically from a theological and religious perspective. Second, by exploring the challenges for Christian education, the author suggests the educational vision and practices as a way of preparation to respond to society of disgust.
