초록

This research investigates the impact of resource scarcity arising from the COVID-19 pandemic on individuals' negative psychological states, using the S-O-R model and Life History Theory. 301 U.S. adults participated in an online survey, and the results were analyzed using structural equation modeling. The findings of this study are as follows: Firstly, the scarcity of material, social, and financial resources induced feelings of helplessness and anxiety among consumers. Secondly, these negative psychological states were found to be associated with social isolation and hoarding behavior. Lastly, the influence of resource scarcity on psychological states varied depending on individuals' temporal focus. By analyzing abnormal consumer behaviors caused by negative psychological states, this research can be applied to understanding and improving consumers' psychological well-being in unpredictable societal crisis situations like a pandemic.
