초록

In this paper, first, I studied the meaning of Mexico based on Mexicans’ ancient documents and legends comparing them with our ancient ones. I found that Mexi, the stem of the word, was derived from the Korean ancient tribal name 맥이(貊耳), of which the more original form is 맥(貊). Second, I payed attention to the similarity between Aztlan, the name of the mythic original place of the Aztec, and 아사달(阿斯達), the mythic ancient capital of Kochosun, the first Korean kingdom according to Dangun mythology. By this I came to know that the meaning of 아사달(阿斯達) was ‘white territory or white mountain,’ and to find that the word 백악산(白岳山), another name written immediately before 아사달(阿斯達), was the interpretation in Chinese of this mythic toponym. I also studied the meaning of 태백(太伯), another mythic toponym that appeared in Dangun mythology, comparing with the word Tepec used by the Aztec in order to refer to mountains. By this comparison I cleared up that 태백(太伯) was a common noun and meant ‘mountain.’ Korean ancestors constructed many pyramids in Manchuria in ancient ages, but we Koreans of today did not know what they called them. I came to find that they called them tepec by this comparison. And, finally, I explained that Cholula, an ancient Mexican toponym, was correlated with Korean word 줄행랑.
