이 논문은 칼 로저스의 인간중심 심리치료 기법이 영성지도에 어떻게 적용될 수 있는지를 탐구한다. 현대 사회에서 영성지도와 심리치료의 통합적 접근이 점차 중요해지고 있으며, 이는 인간 변화와 치유의 궁극적인 목표에 도달하기 위해 필수적 탐구 영역이 되고 있다. 로저스의 심리치료는 상담자의 진정성, 무조건적 긍정적 수용, 정확한 공감적 이해라는 세 가지 핵심 개념을 강조한다. 이 개념들은 영성지도 과정에서 피지도자와의 관계 형성 및 영적 성장에도 건설적이며, 영성지도의 궁극적 목표를 달성하는 구체적인 기법을 제공한다. 로저스는 인간이 본래 긍정적인 잠재성을 가지고 있으며, 적절한 환경에서 그 잠재성을 발휘할 수 있다고 믿었다. 그의 이론은 피지도자가 자신의 영적 여정을 깊이 탐구하고, 하나님의 형상을 회복하도록 돕는 데 있어 중요한 역할을 한다. 본 연구는 로저스의 심리치료 기법이 영성지도의 구체적인 프레임과 실질적인 접근법을 제공할 수 있음을 주장하며, 특히 한국적 맥락에서의 적용 가능성을 검토한다. 또한, 논문은 영성지도 사역에서 심리치료와의 건설적 대화가 영혼의 다양한 경험과 현상을 탐색하고 이해하는 데 큰 도움을 줄 뿐만 아니라, 현대사회 영혼 돌봄 사역으로서의 타당성과 효율성을 높이는 데 중요하다고 강조한다. 로저스의 심리치료 기법이 제공하는 긍정적 인간 이해와 비지시적 접근은 영성지도의 목표와 방향에 부합하며, 이를 통해 피지도자가 하나님과의 친밀한 교제를 통해 영적으로 성장하도록 지원할 수 있음을 시사한다. 결론적으로, 본 연구는 로저스의 인간중심 상담기법이 영성지도 사역에서 실질적인 도구로 사용될 수 있는 가능성을 제시하며, 이를 통해 영성지도는 피지도자가 하나님께서 부여하신 소명을 분별하고 그에 따라 살아가도록 돕는 데 기여할 수 있음을 입증한다 .
Abstract
This paper explores how Carl Rogers’ person-centred psychotherapy techniques can be applied to spiritual direction. The integrative approach of spiritual direction and psychotherapy is becoming increasingly important in the modern world and is an essential area of enquiry to reach the ultimate goal of human transformation and healing. Rogers’ psychotherapy emphasises three key concepts: counsellor authenticity, unconditional positive acceptance, and accurate empathic understanding. These concepts are constructive to the relationship and spiritual growth of the client in the spiritual direction process and provide specific techniques to achieve the ultimate goal of spiritual direction. Rogers believed that human beings have inherent positive potential, which can be unleashed in the right environment. His theories play an important role in helping the client deeply explore their spiritual journey and recover the image of God. This study argues that Rogers’ psychotherapeutic techniques can provide a concrete frame and practical approach for spiritual direction, and examines its applicability, especially in the Korean context. The paper also emphasises that constructive dialogue with psychotherapy in spiritual direction ministry is not only helpful in exploring and understanding various experiences and phenomena of the soul, but also important in enhancing its relevance and effectiveness as a soul care ministry in modern society. It suggests that the positive human understanding and non-directive approach offered by Rogers’ psychotherapeutic techniques are in line with the goals and orientation of spiritual direction, which can support the client to grow spiritually through intimate communion with God. In conclusion, this study demonstrates that Rogers’ person-centred counselling technique has the potential to be used as a practical tool in the ministry of spiritual direction, and in doing so, spiritual direction can contribute to helping clients discern and live out their God-given vocation.
