Abstract

The essay is focused upon Lee Hak-gyu's doctrine of pronunciation and rhyme, especially its motive, purpose and content. From the view-point of objective theoretical system, Lee Hak-gyu made an app.roach to the issues of pronunciation and rhyme in poetry and prose. Above all, he pointed out that people at that time had the problems of abusing pronunciation and rhyme. Moreover, he mentioned specifically a series of incorrect usages concerning the rule of Panjeol, of Tongyun, of Young Yeum and the doctrine of Hyeop Yeum in poetry and prose, and, furthermore, tried to correct them. Concretely, he wanted to deliver properly a correct conceptual knowledge of pronunciation and rhyme to unenlightened people. At the same time, he intended to made them recognize properly the incorrect knowledge of rhyme usages, which they at that time misused and misunderstood in writing verse.
