This study aims at the study on the imagination system of Shim Yeon-su's poetry. Shim Yeon-su visualized as poetry the life and experience of emigrants in the period of Japanese occupation. He is a representative of emigrants and emigrant poets. His family poetry shows the characteristics of not only personal history but national history. His poetry is appreciated as national literature and resistance poetry because of including the characteristics of national identity and nationality restoration. The poetic imagination of Shim Yeon-su's poetry is divided into hitorical imagnation, diaspora imagination and animus imagination. The historical imagination is based on the optimistic historicism. Historical imagination includes the ideology of fire, seed and earth towarding the circulatory natural viewpoint. Diaspora imagination shows the expression of emigrant consciouness and the emotion of northern district. Diaspora imagination includes the homesickness motive and it calls into being tour poetry and landscape poetry. Animus imagination shows the continental scale and masculinity. The space time of his poetry heads toward the vastitude and eternity and visualizes the grand scheme of human idea and dream. The grand scheme comes to a conclusion of masculinity and heads toward the expressin of strong volition and conviction. Historical imagination, diaspora imagination and animus imagination of Shim Yeon-su's poetry furnishes abundant nutition and freh breath of modern Korean poetry. (Konkuk University)
