Abstract
Kim Jong-sam, one of Korean post-war poets, has unique poetics in Korean poetry history. In his poetry, we can find imperfect sentences, grammatical errors, ellipsis and some jumps in the logic. But they are not foolish grammatical errors but results from the rhetorical intention. His poetics is that of catachresis, one of rhetorical concept. Catachresis is the apparently inappropriate substitution of one word for another. As it refuses the order of reason, it's metaphysical background is similar to the philosophy of postmodernism. Catachresis is an inevitable rhetorical concept in a post-war condition in which God had perished. The frequent emergence of catachresis in poetry is a symptom of the death instinct and nihilism. Catachresis in Kim Jong-sam's poetry is another symptom of his pessimism.
