초록

This paper investigates the relationship between trust and individuals’ labor force participation using a sample from the United States’ General Social Survey data. The findings suggest that trust as an individual’s attitude is significantly associated with the probability of the individual’s labor market participation, and that the inherited component of trust increases the probability of participation. The results from the pseudo-panel show that trust at the regional level is also significantly associated with the regional labor force participation rate.

Abstract

This paper investigates the relationship between trust and individuals’ labor force participation using a sample from the United States’ General Social Survey data. The findings suggest that trust as an individual’s attitude is significantly associated with the probability of the individual’s labor market participation, and that the inherited component of trust increases the probability of participation. The results from the pseudo-panel show that trust at the regional level is also significantly associated with the regional labor force participation rate.
