Abstract
Realism is that tokens of most current common—sense and scientific, physical types objectively exist independently of the mental(theory, language). Linguistic relativism forms anti—Realism. According to this doctrine, nothing exists absolutely. All talk of existence and reference is relative to theory. Ontology proper is abandoned. Dumment's argument against Realism rests on the theory that linguistic competence consist in knowledge of truth conditions. Putnam's solution to the problem of reference is to give up the idea that reference is to a mind—independent world. Kuhn and Feyerabend focus almost entirely on epistemic and semantic issue. They start from incommensurability. This linguistic relativism's Ontology rests on epistemology or semantic.
