“코라(chora)” 공간의 물질성과 사회 철학적 확장 가능성 - 크리스테바의 『시적언어의 혁명』을 중심으로 -

이 논문에서 필자는 여성을 해방시키고자 하는 여성주의 이론이 “절대적” 공간 개념에 따라 여성의 몸과 활동영역을 텅 비어있음 혹은 결핍으로 이해한다면 여성을 수동적인 희생자로 낙인찍는 치명적인 결과를 가져올 수 있음을 지적하는 데서 출발하였다. 필자는 이러한 난점을 극복하고자 크리스테바의 『시적언어의 혁명』에 나타난 “코라” 개념을 분석하고 이로부터 담론 외적으로 그러나 언어 내적으로 존재하는 공간 개념이 가능하다는 것을 도출하였다. “코라”는 자신을 채우고 있는 활동적이고 물질적인 힘을 통해 지배적 담론/법/제도의 영역을 가로지르며 이런 의미에서 수동적이지 않다. 나아가 필자는 깁슨-그래함과 제시카 벤자민의 이론을 빌어 “코라” 공간의 사회 철학적 확장을 시도해 보았다. 이 과정에서 필자는 “코라” 공간을 단순히 언어적인 것이 아니라 주체, 신체 그리고 제반 물질적 관계까지도 포함하는 담론적 총체와 관련된 것으로 확장할 필요가 있다는 점 그리고 “코라”와 “생볼릭”의 관계가 인정 이론적으로 재구성될 필요가 있다는 점을 주장하였다.
Abstract
Many social and urban theories from the feminist perspective have been assumed that woman's body and sphere are the “absolute” and inane space which lacks its own dynamics. So they could have fatal consequences to regard the woman as a passive victim. In order to overcome the difficulty, I first make an analysis of the Kristeva's concept of “chora” in Revolution in Poetic Language and then derive a active concept of space from the analysis. In the process, I show that “chora” is outside of the “symbolic” space which is regulated by dominant discourse, but still inside of language. And I argue that “chora”-space is filled with its own physical materiality and dynamics, so that it can intersect, resist and transform the symbolic law actively. On the next step, I try to expand the extension of the “chora”-space into the social philosophical horizon by the introduction of J. K. Gibson-Graham's political economy and Jessica Benjamin's theory of recognition. In the process, I argue that “chora”-space isn't related only to the narrow sense of language, but also to the wide sense of the discoursive that includes subjects, bodies and societies etc. Moreover I reconstruct the relation between “‘chora’ semiotic” and “symbolic” in terms of recognition.
