Abstract
Prioritarianism now enjoys its status as a forefront runner among egalitarian views or as a promising replacement of worn-out egalitarianism. By allotting greater weight to per unit benefit to the worse off and maximizing weighted sum of benefit, it is alleged that prioritarianism can accord due considerations to each of fairness and welfare enhancement. Also, it has been forcefully argued that in its all-things- considered evaluation of distributive outcomes, egalitarianism would converge on prioritarianism. This paper attempts to show that the alleged advantages of prioritarianism over egalitarianism are not well-grounded, and that the practical convergence thesis can be resisted.
