Abstract
As the importance of questioning talent and questioning competence is increasing, this study sought to explore the characteristics of good questions, that is, what kind of questions students should be guided to generate, as a basis for questioning education. To this end, we asked mathematics and science experts to evaluate students' questions, select the best questions, and explain why they selected them. By validating the characteristics of good questions, we aimed to identify the characteristics of good questions in science. For this purpose, we conducted a two-round Delphi survey with nine professors from the field of natural sciences (math, physics, chemistry, and life sciences) as experts. The characteristics of good questions selected by the experts were that a good question is a question that is written based on a sufficient understanding of the phenomenon, enables scientific inquiry, and expands understanding. A good question should also stimulate further observation, questioning, and exploration, improve and extend the limits of the current state of knowledge, or inspire creative thinking in the process of deriving an answer. Finally, a good question is one that clearly communicates the purpose or content of the question. This study is important because it provides guidelines for what constitutes a good question from the perspective of an expert in the field of natural science.
