Abstract

The rising demand for lithium-ion batteries has emphasized the critical need for electrode materials that combine both high capacity and superior high-rate performance. While graphite anodes, widely utilized today, offer structural stability and excellent electrical conductivity, they are hindered by low theoretical capacity and performance degradation during rapid charge/discharge cycles. To overcome these limitations, this study focuses on enhancing the electrochemical properties of graphite by optimizing the synthesis conditions for decorating MoSe2 nanosheets onto the natural graphite (NG) surface via hydrothermal synthesis. The MoSe2@NG composite anode developed in this study demonstrated a high capacity of approximately 558 mAh g–1 at a low current density of 35 mA g–1, showing a remarkable 48% increase over pristine NG (~376 mAh g–1). Additionally, even after 100 cycles at a high current density of 1600mA g–1, the MoSe2@NG composite anode maintained a capacity of around 439mAh g–1, nearly double that of pristine NG (~221 mAh g–1 after 100 cycles). These findings highlight the potential of the MoSe2@NG composite as a promising next-generation anode material for advanced lithium-ion batteries, delivering both high capacity and excellent high-rate performance.
