Abstract
This study aims to explore the association between relational affect and relationship satisfaction among couples. Online survey data from 101 dating and married couples were analyzed using paired t-tests, correlation analyses and regression analyses. The actor effect and partner effect of relational affect on relationship satisfaction and the gender differences were examined. The actor effect of relational affect on relationship satisfaction were significant for both male and female, and the effect size of negative relational affect was bigger than that of positive relational affect. The partner effects of relational affect on relationship satisfaction were partially significant, which were different by gender. The significance of this study is that the relational affect was separated from cognitive evaluation on couple relationship and that the association between them was examined. In addition, the findings of this study could be utilized for evidence based couple counseling intervention.
