Abstract

This paper examines the life and work of Han Youngun, a Korean independence activist and writer during the Japanese colonial period. Specifically, it focuses on the influence of Indian figures Rabindranath Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi on Han Youngun’s literary work. The research method utilized literature analysis based on existing research or original texts. Han Youngun is known for promoting a form of “heroic nationalism” in Korea, emphasizing sacrifice and resistance in the face of colonial oppression. One of his most famous works, “My Lover’s Silence”, is analyzed in depth, particularly the concept of “Nim”, which can be interpreted as a symbol of resistance and defiance. Through exploring Han’s life and ideas, this paper sheds light on the complex history of anti-colonial struggles in Korea and the enduring legacy of figures like Rabindranath Tagore and Mahatma Gandhi in the region.
