The purpose of this study is to investigate initial teacher training programmes for science teachers in England and to examine implications of them. The programmes are Undergraduate Teacher Training (UTT), Postgraduate Teacher Training (PTT), Employment-based Initial Teacher Training (EBITT) and so forth. They should prepare to give initial teachers sufficient breadth of school experience and understanding of progression. The course content of them has three components including professional attributes, knowledge and understanding and skills. The initial teacher training programmes focus on improving professional development for science teacher. Administration is trying to do supporting the development of pedagogies and helping to spread good practice. Therefore, particular attention should be paid to their implications for prospective secondary school science teachers.

Abstract
