본 연구에서는 오스트리아의 황후 엘리자베트 폰 비텔스바흐의 삶이 문화 콘텐츠에서 어떻게 활용되고 있는지 확인하고, 이를 통해 역사적 인물이 어떻게 문화콘텐츠 아이콘이 되는지 그 과정과 조건에 대해 분석하였다. 엘리자베트는 19세기의 상징적 인물로, 그녀의 비극적인 이야기는 강력한 문화적 잠재력을 가지고 있다. 그녀의 복잡한 성격과 그녀를 둘러싼 갈등은 사람들로 하여금 공감을 불러 일으키고 교훈을 제공한다. 미하엘 쿤체의 뮤지컬 『엘리자벳』은 엘리자베트의 내적 갈등을 재구성하고 역사적 사실과 상상력을 결합하여 관객들에게 깊은 인상을 남겼다. 『엘리자벳』의 흥행을 통해 역사적 인물들에게서 이야기를 넘어 보편적인 인간 경험에 대한 깊은 통찰을 제공받을 수 있고, 이는 곧 고품질의 문화콘텐츠임을 알 수 있다. 국내에서도 해외의 역사적 인물이 성공적으로 문화콘텐츠 아이콘이 된 사례를 연구하여 창의적 문화콘텐츠 개발에 힘쓰고, 역사적 인물들의 다양한 서사를 콘텐츠 시장에 도입할 필요가 있다.
Abstract
This study examines how Empress Elisabeth von Wittelsbach of Austria is represented in cultural content and explores how historical figures transform into cultural icons. Elisabeth, a key figure of the 19th century, holds significant cultural potential due to her tragic and complex life. Her multifaceted personality and the surrounding conflicts evoke empathy and offer valuable lessons. Michael Kunze’s musical Elisabeth reinterprets her internal struggles, combining historical facts with imaginative elements, creating a lasting impact on audiences. The success of Elisabeth illustrates that historical figures can provide profound insights into universal human experiences beyond their historical narratives, representing high-quality cultural content. The study suggests that analyzing how historical figures have successfully become cultural icons internationally can aid in developing creative cultural content and incorporating diverse historical narratives into the content market.
