Abstract

In this study was conducted to identify the luminescence characteristics of black writing pen inks. Then, check wavelength identified ink on similar color paper (black). The material used a video spectral comparator (VSC) and a total of 154 black writing pen (ballpoint pen, gel pen, rollerball pen, fiber-tip pen and fountain pen). As a result, ballpoint pen and gel pen with oil ink were able to identify luminescence characteristics when using UV light source with 780 nm on A4 white paper and 850, 780 nm on black color paper. Rollerball pen, fiber-tip pen and fountain pen with liquid ink were able to identify luminescence characteristics using UV light source with 725 nm on A4 white paper and 780nm on black color paper. But, fiber-tip pen could be checked when using UV light source with 780 nm on black color paper. This data was able to present wavelength to identify the luminescence characteristics of black writing pen ink on papers (white, black). It is expect helpful evaluate writing ink on questioned documents using a non-destructive method.
