Abstract

Digital film production is expected to reduce expenses of film budget and increase further in Korean film industry. This phenomenon also reflects the recent economic recession of Korean film market. Compared to shooting on a negative film, Digital film production can shorten the term of production and simply control the process from pre-production to post-production. However, we are not equipped to understand and make the best use of digital characteristics yet. So, We are required to figure out the differences between conventional film-making and digital film-making for productive and effective digital film production Pre-Visualization is a kind of digital film-making. From the early years of 1990s, it has been used actively in Hollywood. Pre-Visualization was also introduced to domestic film industry in the early years of 2000s. Because of high costs and lack of understanding, it is not still achieved more than expected in Korean film industry. Digital camera that is cheaper than conventional film camera raises the efficiency of film production. The new mechanism and characteristic of digital camera enables various expressions such as fusion of filmed image and computer graphics. Because all of the digital camera models has its own advantages and faults, it is necessary for the professionals to have knowledge and experience about digital cameras. <Summer Whispers>is a low-budget digital cinema. One of the most important tasks of the film-making is expressing the color sense of summer. Cinematography of the film focuses on representing brightness and darkness finely for showing the green and clear atmosphere of summer. The model of digital camera which is used in the film is HDW-F900. The advantage of HDW-F900 is not just recording the image but adjusting the filmed image that film director or cinematographer wants to express. The digital sources of <Summer Whispers> is converted to film print for distributing and releasing. During the recent years film industry as well as visual industry went through a lot of changes. This phenomenon brings about structural change of production environment. Nowadays we must have interest in establishing the system which is suitable for the new production environment. Therefore, It is necessary for professionals who have knowledge about the digital characteristics. This is the time we actively introduce and improve new technology.
