Abstract

Yonsei University Creating a convincing facial type and facial expression is the one of the most important and challenging task in digital content creation. Artists and researchers has been developed various methods; from ad-hoc solutions to computational model approach to make their facial animation work. With the growing demand of virtual agents and avatars, the need for efficient and believable face has become more important. And creating a believable face is more than deforming a facial surface, it is a reflection of emotional status and feelings of the character who makes that expression. This is where psychological theories have to play a role. It could signals why the specific facial expression has to happen at a certain time for a character. This paper outlines theories and practices in creating facial type and facial expression. Meaning and method in creating facial type and animation is explained and relevant psychological theories are introduced. Then, a model with which combines psychological internal emotion model and muscle based 3D model system is examined and the problem of the model is to be addressed.
