자율방범단체의 활성화방안에 관한 연구

Abstract

Crime prevention is the attempt to reduce victimization and to deter crime and criminals. It is applied specifically to efforts made by criminal justice institutes to reduce crime. Police has made efforts for suppressing crime but crime has been getting worse. So I think that the strategies for preventing crime are not appropriate. And I also think that involving community residents in volunteer patrol activities is one of the best solution to crime prevention. This study examines some theories and research related volunteer patrol activities. And this study examines the realities of volunteer patrol activities and suggests the countermeasures activating these activities. The basic theories of volunteer patrol activities are control theory, situational crime prevention and community-policing. The basic problems can be summarized into two parts as follows. First, the volunteer patrol activities have no regal basis. Second, there are little incentives for participants in volunteer patrol activities. And the following items can be suggested as alternatives for the problems. First, it is necessary to give regal basis for volunteer patrol activities. Second, it is need to increase partnership between police and citizen. Third, it also necessary to give some incentives to participants in volunteer patrol activities. Finally, it is needed to make and distribute operational manual for volunteer patrol activities.
